The Black Doctoral Network (BDN) was established in 2012 to strengthen and expand the pipeline of advanced-degree scholars across fields, institutions, and industries — especially those who have been historically overlooked or professionally isolated.
What began as a convening quickly evolved into a movement: a cross-generational, cross-disciplinary community of scholars committed to mentorship, thought leadership, and academic excellence.
Today, BDN is a national platform and intellectual ecosystem. Our members include PhDs, MDs, JDs, researchers, faculty, students, and professionals from all walks of life — united by a shared belief in scholarship, legacy, and impact.
To connect, support, and elevate a globally diverse community of scholars — through mentorship, professional development, research collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to excellence.
We welcome all who share these values, regardless of discipline, institution, or background.
At a time when meaningful community is harder to find, BDN continues to serve as a home — and a launchpad — for those who seek not just to succeed, but to lead.
